'Cinema Pour L'oreille'

Novi_sad explores sound as sensation pulling apart its physical properties to reveal its relationship with human perception. Some of his projects are primarily focused in architectural acoustics and the relationship between architecture and sound, when other projects are based on various methods of audio analysis in extremely unique recordings and the use of quantitative and numerical data from different sources (NASA among others).

His vertiginous structures destruct and reconstruct architectonic, organic and sentimental abstractions with precision and hypnotic beauty, which functions as a gateway onto eternity. His music has been described as ‘a complete surrendering of the senses’. Novi_sad’s albums found plenty of receptive ears, receiving glowing reviews in music media around the world. His audio works are available from Sedimental [U.S], Touch [U.K], Staalplaat [NL] and Sub Rosa [BE]. He has presented his work in cinemas, industrial spaces, theatres, churches, museums, auditoriums, squats, in festivals like Mutek [Montreal - Mexico City], Ultrahung [Budapest], Observatori [Valencia], Gaudeamus Musis Week [Amsterdam], Rojo Nova [Rio de Janeiro], Elektra [Montreal], Suoni per il popolo [Montreal], Eletronika [Belo Horizonte] and in such spaces as: Roy O. Novi_sad is the guise for Thanasis Kaproulias (b. 1980), who lives and works in Athens, Greece. His approach on sound is primarily focused on 'cinema pour l'oreille' (cinema for the ear), architectural acoustics and the use of quantitative/numerical data from different sources. He has presented his work worldwide and collaborated with major figures in the fields of digital music creation.

Lumisokea is a Belgian-Italian duo, formed by Koenraad Ecker and Andrea Taeggi, based in Berlin.

Their music is at once highly physical, rhythmically intricate and rich in texture, using both acoustic (cello, prepared piano) as well as analog hardware to create a dark and introspective listening experience. Their influences range from dub to noise, bassmusic, techno, musique concrète and contemporary classical music, while remaining focused on the key elements in their music : to induce trance-like states, to move bodies and to emphasize the tactile qualities of sound.

To strengthen the impact and concentration of their live-shows, Lumisokea have created a visual side to their musical performances together with Yannick Jacquet (Legoman), a well-respected video-artist, known a.o. from his work as a founding member of the AntiVJ visual label.

The visuals and scenography that Yannick Jacquet designed for Lumisokea are based around the simple but highly effective idea of projecting slowly developing, abstract geometrical beams of light into a pitch black room filled with smoke. In contrast to most visuals used at musical performances, these moving shapes do not seek to add a certain meaning or concrete imagery to Lumisokea’s music. They rather function as a hypnotic focal point and a way to relieve the audience from the boundaries of the performance space, made possible through the use of the tactile and illusory qualities of light projected onto smoke.

Lumisokea's latest release "Selva" was released in november 2012 on Eat Concrete, receiving enthusiastic reviews, of which you can find some excerpts below. Their debut album "Automatons" was released in 2011, also on Eat Concrete.

At the moment, Lumisokea is preparing two new releases:
A 5-track EP for Opal Tapes (fall 2013) and an album for Eat Concrete (early 2014).




 Song Buslines Live

Song Buslines describes, through sound, the routes of 'long-haul' bus trips along the east coast of Australia. Song Buslines takes its inspiration from the 'songlines' of indigenous Australia, where song as oral tradition assists in navigation of the land or ‘country.’ Here, truck stops and town names replace the geographical markers of the natural world.

Indigenous Australia does not acknowledge any separation between the spiritual and physical (or material) worlds. For European Australia, this separation is very much apparent at the end of a twenty-four hour road trip on a bus. The body and suitcase may have arrived, but the heart is several thousand kilometres back down the road.


'Song Buslines' beschreibt mit Klang die Routen des langstrecke Busen um die Ostküste Australiens. 'Song Buslines' nimmt seine Inspiration von die Songlines (Traumpfade) von Einheimischen Australien wo Lied als mündliche Tradition hilft die Navigation der 'country' (Landschaft). Hier aber Raststätten und Ortsnamen ersetzten die geographischen Kennzeichnungen der natüralichen Welt.

Einheimischen Australien erkennt kein Trennung zwischen geistigen und physikalischen Welten an. Für Europaische Australien diese Trennung ist sehr offentsichlich am Ende eine 24- stündigen Busfahrt: „Kopf und Koffer sind zwar am Ziel angekommen, das Herz jedoch ist noch unterwegs.“
